Estrogen dominance is a term that describes a condition where a woman can have deficient, normal, or excessive estrogen, but has little or no progesterone to balance its effects in the body. Progesterone and estrogen go hand in hand. Progesterone is like the red carpet for estrogen; if there isn’t enough progesterone, the estrogen in our body flounders. One needs the other. Even a woman with low estrogen (pre-, peri-, and menopausal) can have estrogen dominance symptoms if she doesn’t have enough progesterone.
It is well known that one of the most prominent causes of breast cancer, as well as many other hormone-related health problems in both men and women, is excessive estrogen exposure from endogenous (produced within the body) as well as environmental sources.
How Come We Have So Much Estrogen?
Xenoestrogens (sometimes referred to as endocrine-disrupting chemicals) are chemicals that mimic estrogen in your body. We absorb xenoestogrens through our food, water, air, and products we put on our bodies. Our meat (chicken and beef particularly) are routinely injected with estrogen. Other common sources of xenoestrogrens are plastic water bottles and food storage containers, nail polish, makeup, hormonal birth control (whether we use it ourselves or absorb it via groundwater), pesticides, and herbicides.
These xenoestrogens are not biodegradable so they are stored in our fat cells. Build up of xenoestrogens have been indicated in many conditions including: breast, prostate, and testicular canceer, obesity, infertility, endometriosis, early onset puberty, miscarriages, and diabetes. We are constantly exposed to these substances in the world we live in but I am not here to be doom and gloom. I am here YELLING FROM THE ROOFTOPS that we have a solution or at least the ability to change and improve our detoxification systems that will most definitely improve our symptoms. There are steps you can take toward improving your overall health and preventing of disease!
Our bodies need to detoxify or methylate these estrogens for us to live a healthy, hormonally balanced life. I started this functional medicine education journey mainly because of my menopausal symptoms. What I have learned in the process is we NEED to be eating more detoxifying foods (cruciferous veggies) and I have found an amazing HORMONE BALANCING drink that helps us daily to methylate and detoxify these excessive and harmful xenoestrogens.

Patient Success Stories
“I came to Dr. Jo when I had so much pain on my left body and hot flashes at night before my period every month. I couldn’t exercise and sleep as much as I needed to. She didn’t just help me with my pain but she completely changed my life with the hormone treatment for my hot flashes. Now I am able to sleep much better and exercise as much as I want to.” — Jenny I.
“Dr. Jo was great to work with in diagnosing my hormone imbalance. As a mom of four kids, I was starting to think the constant fatigue just came with the territory. However, I’m happy to report my symptoms have subsided and my energy levels are back to normal!” — Jessie B.
“The DUTCH test and hormone balancing program were a real game-changer for me. It was a relief to know there were real reasons behind why I felt so blah! I could not peel myself out of bed, was depressed and cranky, and experienced unpleasant itching. Within a few weeks, all of these things were improved. I can actually get out of bed in the morning and get moving! I had forgotten what that felt like.” — Pam
