Living with chronic pain can be frustrating and exhausting. Many people feel like they’ve tried everything without lasting relief. After experiencing years of wrist and thumb pain from a repetitive stress injury caused by decades of chiropractic work, Dr. Jo searched for treatments that not only eased pain but also addressed its root cause.

What to Expect

SoftWave therapy begins with a gentle, diagnostic assessment in a private treatment room. Depending on the area being addressed, patients may be provided with a gown or shorts to ensure comfort and access to the treatment site.

The practitioner will run the machine over the area of concern, allowing the acoustic waves to reveal where tissue damage is present. In those regions, patients may feel a deeper, more noticeable ache compared to surrounding tissue this helps the practitioner find out where the issue actually lies. The intensity of the device is always adjusted to the patient’s comfort level. While the sensation can be uncomfortable at times, it remains fully manageable.

During the session, patients will hear a rhythmic clicking sound as the acoustic waves travel into the tissue.

Each SoftWave session lasts approximately 10 minutes and typically focuses on one body region per visit.

After the appointment, patients are encouraged to rest and allow the body to continue its natural healing response. Mild soreness for a day or two is common as the tissue repairs and regenerates. Patients should avoid icing the treated area, as it may interfere with the body’s healing process.

SoftWave therapy is safe for most individuals and can be performed over artificial joints and healing bone fractures. It is not recommended for patients with active cancer in the treatment area, those who have received a cortisone injection in that area within the past three weeks, or individuals with a pacemaker near the treatment site.

Healing timelines vary based on each patient’s unique condition. Some feel relief right away, while others notice improvement a couple of days after treatment. With each session, patients typically experience increased mobility, reduced inflammation, and decreased pain.

Treatments are commonly scheduled once or twice weekly, and most patients achieve maximum benefit after 6 – 8 sessions. The results will vary depending on the severity of the injury and how long it has been there.
